Solution:
We need to determine the value of (2t + t – x)/(t – x). Using the distributive property we can rewrite this expression as:
2t/(t-x) + (t-x)/(t-x) = ?
2t/(t-x) + 1 = ?
Thus, in order to solve the problem, we simply need a value for 2t/(t-x).
Statement One Alone:
2t/(t-x) = 3
Since we have a value for 2t/(t-x), statement one is sufficient to answer the question. We can eliminate answer choices B, C, and E.
Statement Two Alone:
t – x = 5
Knowing only the value of t – x does not give us enough information to determine the value of 2t/(t-x). Statement two is not sufficient to answer the question.
